چکیده

Aiming to verify the occurrence of predator mites in Southern Bahia State, we evaluate an agroforestry system (AFS) with açaí palm [Euterpe oleracea Mart. (Arecaceae)] intercropped cupuaçu [Theobroma grandiflorum (Willd. Ex Spreng.) K. Schum. (Malvaceae)] Fazenda Bom Sossego located Porto Seguro municipality, Bahia. The samples were performed monthly at 15 plants each species, from September 2019 February 2020. We found a total 458 predatory 14 species and eight families, which 295 collected on açai 163 cupuaçu, 13 host, being Cheyletidae sp. unique Typhlodromus (Anthoseius) palm. From those, four are new records for host. Our results highlight that joint cultivation as AFS is suitable useful considering biological control practices, since hosts share more than 90% improving diversity beneficial organisms AFS. Açaí was recently reported host red-palm-mite (Raoiella indica Hirst, 1924, Tenuipalpidae), high population density damage, so implementation maintenance may predators instead phytophagous advisable strategy Integrated pest management (IPM) increasing effects natural decreasing damage by pests use chemical control.

Total oxidant scavenging capacities of Euterpe oleracea Mart. (Açaí) fruits.

The antioxidant capacities of 11 commercial and non-commercial samples of Euterpe oleracea Mart. (açaí) fruit pulp were studied with the total oxidant scavenging capacity assay in a modified and automated version against three reactive oxygen species. The antioxidant capacities of all purple açaí samples were found to be excellent against peroxyl radicals, good against peroxynitrite and poor ag...

Population structure and genetic diversity in natural populations of Theobroma speciosum Willd. Ex Spreng (Malvaceae).

The genus Theobroma found in the Amazon region is composed of 22 species, including Theobroma speciosum, better known as cacauí. These species are constantly threatened by forest fragmentation caused by human activities and require conservation strategies and management aimed at preserving them in their natural environments. The main objective of this study was to analyze the population structu...

Selection of Reference Genes for Expression Study in Pulp and Seeds of Theobroma grandiflorum (Willd. ex Spreng.) Schum

Cupuassu (Theobroma grandiflorum [Willd. ex Spreng.] Schum) is a species of high economic importance in Brazil with great potential at international level due to the multiple uses of both its seeds and pulp in the industry of sweets and cosmetics. For this reason, the cupuassu breeding program focused on the selection of genotypes with high pulp and seed quality-selection associated with the un...

Açaí (Euterpe oleracea Mart.) Modulates Oxidative Stress Resistance in Caenorhabditis elegans by Direct and Indirect Mechanisms

Açaí (Euterpe oleracea Mart.) has recently emerged as a promising source of natural antioxidants. Despite its claimed pharmacological and nutraceutical value, studies regarding the effects of açaí in vivo are limited. In this study, we use the Caenorhabditis elegans model to evaluate the in vivo antioxidant properties of açaí on an organismal level and to examine its mechanism of action. Supple...

Inhibitory effect of açaí (Euterpe oleracea Mart.) pulp on IgE-mediated mast cell activation.

The palm fruit açaí is known to have potential health benefits due to its antioxidant scavenging capacities. Pretreatment of IgE-sensitized mouse primary cultured mast cells with açaí pulp resulted in the dramatic suppression of antigen-induced degranulation in a dose-dependent manner. Similarly, açaí suppressed IgE-mediated degranulation and transcription of the cytokine genes from a cultured ...
